Worx Crescent Suzuki are celebrating after Tommy Hill fought his way to the opening win of the day at Brands Hatch, holding off the hard-charging Ryuichi Kiyonari on the HM Plant Honda.

Hill said: "That was a hard race, especially towards the end as there were a lot of backmarkers and I nearly lost my head as I didn't want to lose the lead. I have to admit I started to panic as I thought it could go wrong, but on the last lap I knew that was it. I came across the line and the team were celebrating so I am really peaking now. I knew we needed to get some good points in the bag as it is a long season but everything has been fantastic and I can't wait for race two now to see if we can do the double."

Pole-sitter Kiyonari had a flying start off the line to take the lead from Tommy Hill, with Stuart Easton getting a sensational start from ninth on the grid to move third. Tommy Bridewell had forced the Quay Garage Honda in to fourth, ahead of HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes.

Bridewell was on the attack for third, diving down the inside of Easton's Swan Honda at Paddock Hill Bend and then after he had passed him back, retook the advantage at Clark Curve on the tenth lap. The Quay Garage Honda was in close contention, but on the 14th lap he crashed out when he lost the front end at Graham Hill Bend.

Kiyonari was coming under pressure from Hill, but it wasn't until the 22 lap that the Worx Crescent Suzuki could get ahead when he took the lead on the run down to Surtees. He then maintained his position on track as the pair diced through back-markers, with Hill taking the win and 25 points ahead of Kiyonari.

The second pack were equally close as Easton, Brookes, Alastair Seeley and James Ellison fought it out for the final podium position. Easton was holding off the challenges of Seeley on the Relentless Suzuki, until he barged his way through down the inside at Paddock Hill Bend on the 13th lap, only for Easton to retake the position at Druids. This happened for several laps, with the third place changing at three consecutive corners as the pair diced for the final podium spot.

On the 22 lap the second attack got shook up as they encountered back-markers and Ellison came off best moving to fourth after getting ahead of Brookes and Easton. He came under pressure from both riders, but with Seeley and third place in his sight he waited until the penultimate lap to make the move.

Michael Laverty on the second Relentless Suzuki was forced to retire after he suffered a technical problem on the 12 lap whilst running in ninth. MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Simon Andrews also didn't finish after taking to the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend. Motorpoint Yamaha's Neil Hodgson didn't take part in the race following his high-side this morning during warm up. Christian Iddon also didn't finish after crashing out at Druids on the 19th lap.

Steve Brogan was the top Mirror.co.uk BSB - Evo rider in 14th ahead of Hudson Kennaugh and Chris Burns on the Splitlath Aprilia.
